Every writer, from beginners to best-selling authors, calls upon the expertise of
editors. An editor can give you a professional review and feedback related to confusion
or flow in your writing style, sentence structure, spelling errors, and inconsistencies.
After you’ve written and rewritten, it is valuable to have an objective editor’s
feedback. Our Editing Service reviews your book and gives information on strengths
and weaknesses of your book and avenues to improve your final copy.
Your completed manuscript may be sent email or through snail mail. After purchase,
we will send instructions for sending it to Heritage Authors. Your letter, describing
your desires and intensions with your project, is also welcome.
Our professional editor will review your manuscript checking for tone, perspective,
sentence fragments, spelling, punctuation, flow, and formatting. You will receive:
- overall feedback on your book related to style, writing strengths and weaknesses,
and ability to reach your intended goals (as described in your letter to us).
- Copyright page and other recommendations for appropriate Front Pages.
- a sample page of copy editing
- a sample suggestion of formatting to make your book consistent with its presentation.
If you desire copy editing throughout your entire manuscript, Heritage Authors can
provide that service at the most affordable price to you.
Copy editing prices are calculated according to the size of your book. Contact us
for a quote.

ISBN numbers are the internationally-recognized identification code for all books
for retail sale. ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a 10-digit number
that uniquely identifies books and book-like products published internationally.
The purpose of the ISBN is to establish and identify one title or edition of a title
from one specific publisher and is unique to that edition, allowing for more efficient
marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers and distributors.
If you desire the potential of selling in local stores or online, such as Amazon.com,
Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc., you will need an ISBN number.
Every ISBN consists of ten digits and whenever it is printed it is preceded by the
letters ISBN. The ten-digit number is divided into four parts of variable length,
each part separated by a hyphen.
The four parts of an ISBN are as follows:
- Group or country identifier which identifies a national or geographic grouping of
publishers;
- Publisher identifier which identifies a particular publisher within
a group;
- Title identifier which identifies a particular title or edition of a title;
A bar code is used on sale items, assisting the store with necessary
information. In the case of books, the bar code gives information on the name of
the publisher, title of book, and retail price. It is a requirement if you wish
to have your book sold in stores.
UPC stands for Universal Product Code. UPC bar
codes were originally created to help grocery stores speed up the checkout process
and keep better track of inventory, but the system quickly spread to all other retail
products because it was so successful.
Heritage Authors offers
Bar Code service for writers interested in making their books available for retail
sale through standard transaction channels: retail bookstores and chains, online
bookstores, wholesalers, and distributors. All of these channels require a standard
bar code of your ISBN in order to process the sale of your books.
Heritage Authors
will record your book ISBN number with the Library of Congress.
The ISBN number and publisher are imbedded in the bar
code.
Since the book industry produces so many products, it has been given its own
country codes (978 and 979). The country code is in the bar code.
The main part
of the bar code is usually followed by a 5-number code which contains the suggested
retail price of the book. The first digit of the five indicates the currency: 0
for the British Pound, 5 for the U.S. Dollar, 4 for the Canadian Dollar. The rest
of the code indicates the price. The code 51095, for example, would signify a price
of US $10.95. A supplemental code of 90000 indicates that the book has no suggested
retail price. Scanners in bookstores in the U.S. cannot read the bar code without
its 5-digit add-on.
